Meetings March 18, 2008 Beauty Contest This month was one of those meetings wherein nothing much really gets done, but the group has a good time chatting it up. We did have a Beauty Contest. As I've mentioned before, beauty contests are not judged by IPMS standards. The winner is the build that is the popular favorite. Mike McShea's 1/35th Tamiya M-106 A-1 stood out to the crowd tonight. We had our monthly Toys-for-Tots silent auctions using kits donated by a community member. Some fairly nice kits were obtained by our members for a fraction of their real price. Terry Buschmann shared his pictures of the Indianapolis show last month. A good representation of models were shown. He also shared pics of several trips he had made down to Florida. During these trips, he visited the Sebring International Raceway, home of a "working hanger" owned by Bob Tullius of racing fame. It seems this gentleman has been collecting and rebuilding to flyable condition many vintage aircraft in addition to his race car responsibilities. Some absolutely beautiful specimens were on display and Terry caught large numbers on disc. Mike George, not to be out-done, brought in his pics of warbards at Riley Aviation's facility in Florida. Interesting shots included working P-51 trainers, apparently used in Latin America after WWII. Our usual raffle was held and as usual, the members had a great time. It was good to see several long time members who had been absent, as well as a couple of new faces to the group. To them, I extend yet another warm welcome. On to the Pics!
