Meetings June 19, 2007 Business activities, Beauty Contest and Demonstration Night The meeting opened with several areas of business addressed. Funds were released to use for the September Invitational. Issues regarding the invitational were discussed. There was brief discussion regarding the December banquet (see Events page). There was also a lively discussion regarding making a bid to host the Nationals in 2009. The tentative plan is to use the St. Charles Convention Center July 8-11, 2009. The group gave a resounding approval. Now we NEED to step up to the plate!!! The second area of business was our Beauty Contest. Once again, for those who haven't been here before, the Beauty Contest is an opportunity for club members to show off their builds. There is no "critical" judging. There is no right or wrong. It is judged by all club participants. Which build do you like the best. The most votes wins the door prize! This month, the winner was your webmaster's Hasegawa Typhoon. Thank you all. (I LOVED the door prize). Final matter of business was a demonstration by Michael George on how to obtain a high gloss finish. Secret number one, warm your paint and your surface to be painted. He says that leaves a smoother coat to start with. Second, paint all the areas where polishing would take the paint off first. That way, they get a heavier coat. Third, polish. The tried and true method of starting with 1000 grit and moving through to 2500 or higher grit, always wet sanding with a couple drops of dish soap in the water. Finally, a good clear coat is a must. Other tidbits included always matching, as much as possible, your primer, paint, thinner and clear coat. Mike tries not to use different brands in the same job. He also generally shoots a primer coat, largly because he shoots automotive polyurethane which can craze plastic. A good time was had by all!! On to the Pics!
